Frankie Nightingale bakes by moonlight, kneading loaves and preparing pastries in a tiny bakery on a backstreet, far from prying eyes. Safe from those who have hurt her in the past, she locks herself inside every evening and quietly steps away again at sunrise, leaving warm cinnamon buns and custard tarts ready for morning.

One night, as she works away in silence, a tap at the window startles her, and handsome but shy William unexpectedly steps into her life. Frankie begins to look forward to William’s visits and finds herself opening up to him about secrets she’s held onto for so long. Soon, the welcoming scent of freshly baked bread and warm sugar tempts in two more nighttime regulars, Beth and Tam. A friendship blossoms between the four strangers and Frankie starts to wonder if her new start at the bakery might just work out.

Yet just as Frankie and William begin to get closer and her world shows promise, her ex-husband returns, and she realises everything she’s worked so hard to build could be undone in an instant.

Will friendship and love help Frankie to move on from her past and embrace her future? Or will she have to leave the bakery for good?

Fans of The Last List of Mabel Beaumont, Sally Page and Amanda Prowse will adore this totally uplifting and page-turning novel of finding friendship and belonging in the most unexpected of places.
